The government has initiated work on a comprehensive five-year Strategic Trade Policy Framework (STPF) for 2025–2030, aimed at increasing domestic exports and enhancing the global competitiveness of Pakistani products.
The Ministry of Commerce has sought proposals from federal ministries and provincial governments to shape the new policy, which is set to take effect on July 1, 2025. This framework, which will determine the direction of the five-year trade strategy, will outline priority products, key sectors, and trade promotion targets while aligning with Pakistan's macroeconomic framework.
The proposed policy will include guidance from the Ministry of Commerce and related institutions.
According to the Ministry of Commerce, the policy will focus on simplifying taxes, revenue collection, and textile and industrial policies to create a conducive environment for trade. Measures will also address competitive factors impacting exports, ensuring they remain aligned with global standards.
Under the policy, exports will be given national priority and will also include measures for economic development. Trade policy will be consistent with the macroeconomic framework, according to the Ministry of Commerce officials.
The prime minister has directed that tariff determination under the National Trade Policy (NTP) be rationalised to support exporters. Exports will be designated as a national priority, with additional measures included to accelerate economic development.
"The STPF will determine the direction of the five-year trade strategy and serve as a blueprint for sustainable trade growth," stated officials from the Ministry of Commerce.
