The government is expediting the establishment of an IT Park in Islamabad with support from the Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC). This initiative aims to enhance IT exports and contribute to the government's target of $25 billion in IT exports.
The Islamabad IT Park project, backed by SIFC collaboration, is progressing rapidly. A Korean company has reduced the completion timeline from June 2025 to February 2025.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed satisfaction with the project's progress, stating that the IT Park's construction will significantly increase the country's IT exports. He added that measures would be taken to further reduce the construction period after consulting with experts.
The government has invested $77 million in the IT sector during the current fiscal year as part of this project. Officials expect IT exports to increase by $13 billion, with an additional $10 billion through digitization and $2 billion from the telecom sector in the near future.
Following the success of the Islamabad IT Park, a similar facility is planned for Karachi, according to Shaza Fatima.
Recent developments in the IT sector include a 30% increase in exports and the addition of 300,000 new IT trainees, demonstrating the sector's strong performance.
The government views the promotion of IT exports as crucial for securing and strengthening Pakistan's economy.
