Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has said that negotiations between Iran and the United States will begin immediately after the signing of a proposed memorandum of understanding (MoU), with a key meeting of the negotiating teams scheduled in Geneva on Friday.
Speaking to media in Tehran, Araghchi said both sides are moving into a structured dialogue phase following the initial framework agreement, adding that the talks would gradually expand to include broader regional and strategic issues.
According to the Iranian foreign minister, the heads of the negotiating teams from both Iran and the United States will meet in Geneva to initiate the next phase of discussions.
He said the process would begin with immediate engagement after the MoU signing, followed by phased negotiations covering multiple issues.
Lebanon and regional dimension
Araghchi said that regional developments, particularly in Lebanon, are closely linked to the agreement framework.
He described Lebanon-related issues as interconnected with the broader negotiation process, stating that the situation involving Hezbollah and regional stability would be part of the discussions.
He added that any Israeli military action in Lebanon would be considered a violation of the understanding, emphasizing that such actions would not be acceptable under any circumstances.
According to Araghchi, the first phase of discussions focuses on ending ongoing conflict dynamics, while later stages will address more complex issues including Iran’s nuclear program and sanctions relief.
He said the sequencing of talks reflects the importance of establishing immediate de-escalation before moving toward long-term agreements.
