Former Pakistan cricket captain Mohammad Rizwan admitted that improvement is required in the team’s performance as the Green Shirts prepare for the One-Day International series against Bangladesh national cricket team beginning on March 11.
Speaking to the media in Karachi on Saturday, Rizwan acknowledged that Bangladesh present a challenge in their home conditions. He said Pakistan often take the series lightly, yet Bangladesh give visiting sides a tough time on their own grounds.
Rizwan said the side comprises both experienced and young players, adding that, as players, shortcomings remain which need attention.
He said the selection committee could explain the reasons behind players being left out of the squad. Had he been part of the meeting, he would have explained why certain players were excluded, he added.
Rizwan said the expectations of the nation remain high and that the team’s performance has fallen short, which requires improvement.
He added that the circumstances of the country must also be considered while assessing matters.
Rizwan said the captain plays an important role in building the team, but he could not comment further until the Pakistan Cricket Board makes an announcement.
