A significant milestone has been crossed in the country’s energy sector as the International Atomic Energy Agency has approved the safety application agreement for Chashma Unit 5.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) spokesman, the Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency granted unanimous approval. The development reflects Pakistan’s commitment to the peaceful use of nuclear energy.
Chashma Nuclear Power Plant Unit 5 will have a total generation capacity of 1,200 megawatts. The unit will supply a major source of low-carbon electricity to Pakistan’s national grid and will support energy security, climate targets and sustainable economic growth.
