The Bank of Punjab (BoP) has rejected reports of a cyberattack, clarifying that recent irregular credit card transactions were the result of a temporary technical glitch that has since been resolved.
According to the bank, the issue was detected during routine system monitoring.
Officials said an internal review was immediately initiated after some irregular credit card transactions were identified.
The review revealed that the transactions occurred due to a temporary flaw in the bank’s credit card system.
This glitch allowed a limited number of existing credit card customers to make unauthorized over-limit transactions.
The bank categorically stated that the issue was not the result of any cyberattack.
Addressing reports circulating in some sections of the media, the Bank of Punjab clarified that the affected customers were not linked to any specific government scheme.
The bank said the issue had no connection with the “Asan Zarbon Card” or any other public program.
Instead, it impacted a specific segment of BoP’s credit card holders.
System fully rectified
The bank confirmed that the technical flaw has now been fully rectified.
It also clarified that the system update carried out on Friday, January 2, 2026, was unrelated to this credit card issue.
Recovery actions have been initiated in line with standard banking procedures, and most customers have already contacted the bank and begun repaying the over-limit amounts.
The Bank of Punjab strongly rejected claims circulating about the scale of money involved.
It described such figures as speculative, exaggerated, and false, adding that the situation remains fully under control.
