Public reaction and criticism
The video quickly went viral, triggering a wave of mixed reactions. While many defended the scholar’s longstanding reputation for piety and humility, others accused him of neglecting the Islamic principle of lowering of one’s gaze.
One user wrote, “I admire Maulana Sahib, but here I am speechless.” Another commented, “Why didn’t you lower your gaze?” Some even added humour to the debate, with one writing, “Maulana Sahib seems so into Nargis — eyes don’t lie.”

Another user referenced a famous song, saying, “I can’t take my eyes off you — tere chehre se nazar hatt-ti nahi.” Several commenters advised the scholar to “set an example by practicing what Islam teaches about modesty in front of women.”
