Pakistan has revised its initial estimate of losses from the recent floods, raising the figure to Rs700 billion, as economic review talks continue with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) over the next tranche of $1.2 billion under the loan programme.
The IMF mission was briefed on the scale of the damage caused by floods across the country. The losses include damage to crops, infrastructure, livestock and other sectors. Punjab has suffered the most, with additional losses reported in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Sindh.
According to sources in the Ministry of Finance, the initial estimate of total flood-related losses stood at Rs360 billion. Further details are being collected from the provinces to finalise the assessment.
The IMF has also been informed about the field work and the preparation of results for the labour force and household surveys. The IMF had set a deadline of December 2025 for the release of survey results. However, the federal government has decided to publish the findings of the new Pakistan Labour Force Survey next week.
Data on poverty, unemployment, household income and expenditure trends will be released. The results of the Pakistan Social and Living Standards Survey are also due to be issued later this month.
