The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) on Sunday issued its monthly climate summary for August, reporting slightly above-normal rainfall and higher-than-average temperatures across the country.
According to the report, the country received a total of 82.5 millimeters of rain in August, which was 1.1 percent above normal. The national mean temperature stood at 30.44 degrees Celsius, marginally higher than usual. The average daytime temperature was recorded at 36.17 degrees while nighttime averaged 25.06 degrees.
The hottest day of the month was observed in Dadu on August 8, when the mercury soared to 45.6 degrees. The coldest day was in Skardu at 17.5 degrees on August 3. The chilliest night was recorded in Bagrot, Gilgit-Baltistan, at 10.5 degrees on August 14, while the warmest night was noted in Gilgit at 27.5 degrees on August 18.
Sahiwal witnessed the heaviest single-day rainfall of 340.5 millimeters on August 27 and recorded the highest monthly total of 750.8 millimeters.
The PMD said monsoon currents continued to enter the country from both the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal, with a powerful monsoon spell impacting Sindh and Balochistan. Rainfall also persisted in northwestern Balochistan due to a prevailing low-pressure system.
