The Karachi Traffic Police has announced a ban on heavy traffic across the city on Rabi ul Awal 11 and 12 to ensure smooth flow and safety during Eid Milad un Nabi processions, which will be observed on September 6.
Authorities said the decision was taken in light of large public rallies and religious events planned across Karachi.
With roads and link roads expected to remain crowded, the temporary restriction aims to prevent accidents and ensure citizen safety.
Rising concerns over heavy traffic accidents
The move comes against the backdrop of a troubling surge in fatal road accidents this year. So far in 2025, at least 555 people have died in Karachi due to traffic incidents, with 169 fatalities linked to heavy vehicles.
Accidents involving dumper trucks have been particularly alarming, claiming 34 lives, while trailers caused 63 deaths. Water tankers and buses were also involved in 37 and 35 fatalities, respectively.
