A Sikh student from Lahore, Onkar Singh, has achieved outstanding success in the 9th class exams by securing 554 marks out of 555, setting an inspiring example of hard work and dedication.
Excelling beyond expectations
Despite being offered alternative subjects as part of the minority community, Onkar Singh, who sat the exam through a private school, opted for Islamic Studies and holy Quran translation — and achieved remarkable results. He scored 98 out of 100 in Islamic Studies and 49 out of 50 in holy Quran translation, proving his commitment to academic excellence.

Speaking about his success, Onkar credited his achievement to the guidance of his teachers and the unwavering support of his parents. “This success was only possible due to their prayers, efforts, and encouragement,” he told Samaa TV.
Inspired by father
Onkar Singh aspires to become a doctor, following in the footsteps of his father, Dr. Mimpal Singh, who is recognised for his exceptional contributions to medicine. Dr Singh was conferred with a Tamgha-e-Imtiaz in 2024 in acknowledgment of his services.

Proud of his son’s achievement, Dr. Mimpal Singh said the entire Sikh community and people across Pakistan are celebrating Onkar’s success. “With hard work, dedication, and a positive attitude, one can move forward in life,” he remarked.

Provincial Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat also appreciated Onkar's remarkable achievement by sharing his result on his official X account, commenting “well done”. He also questioned the performance of government schools where Muslim students were failing in religious subjects whereas a non-Muslim had passed them with flying colours.

Education minister’s response
Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat said that these results reflect the “real performance” of students after the crackdown on the booty mafia (cheating networks) across Punjab boards. He stressed that while the numbers may seem disappointing, they indicate a more transparent and fair examination process.
The Lahore BISE on Wednesday officially announced the 9th class result 2025 at 10am. According to official figures, out of 308,000 candidates, only 138,000 managed to pass.
