The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has warned the United States of “devastating retaliation” following what it called an “unprecedented and blatant act of aggression” against Iran’s peaceful nuclear facilities, accusing Washington of aligning with Israel to destabilize the region.
In a strongly worded statement issued Sunday, the IRGC said the American military strike on nuclear facilities in Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan represented a “clear violation” of international law, including the UN Charter, the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), and Iran’s sovereign rights.
The attack, announced earlier by US President Donald Trump on his social media platforms, marked a significant escalation in already fraught tensions between the two countries. The strikes targeted three Iranian nuclear installations that, according to Tehran, were operating under full supervision of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
The IRGC condemned the strike as a joint operation with the Israeli government, referring to it as a “criminal act” intended to halt Iran’s scientific progress. “This action is a clear violation of the UN Charter, international law, the NPT treaty, and the fundamental principles of respect for national sovereignty and territorial integrity,” the statement said.
Referring to the large American military footprint in the region, the Revolutionary Guard asserted that the “number, dispersion, and scale” of US bases do not project power but represent “a major vulnerability” that could be exploited.
“The criminal American regime has not learned the lessons of its past military misadventures in the Middle East,” the IRGC added. “Instead of reconsidering its strategic failures, Washington has placed itself squarely at the forefront of aggression by targeting peaceful installations.”
According to the IRGC, Iran’s armed forces have “monitored and identified” the departure points of US aircraft that participated in the attack, claiming that these locations are now under constant surveillance.
“The repeated failures of American policies reflect strategic incompetence and disregard for regional realities,” the statement said. “Those who have violated this land must now await responses that will bring deep regret.”
It also said Iran’s nuclear program, driven by “indigenous and peaceful technology,” will not be dismantled through military means and that attacks of this nature will only strengthen the resolve of Iranian scientists.
The IRGC vowed to retaliate in ways “beyond the calculations” of the US and its allies. “In response to this aggression and criminality, Operation True Promise III—of which the Zionists have already endured 20 waves—will continue with precision, force, and purpose,” it warned.
Iran’s Atomic Energy Organization (AEOI) also condemned the strikes, stating that the facilities are under IAEA supervision and that the attack undermines the international legal framework designed to ensure transparency in nuclear programs.
“The international community is expected to condemn this lawlessness based on jungle rules and to stand with Iran in asserting its legitimate rights,” the AEOI said, accusing the IAEA of either indifference or complicity in failing to prevent the attack.
It assured the Iranian public that the strikes had not disrupted operations and that the organization remains committed to defending the country's scientific progress. “Necessary actions, including legal follow-up, have been placed on the agenda to defend the rights of the Iranian people,” the statement concluded.
There has been no immediate response from the US government regarding Iran's allegations of a violation of international law. The Pentagon has also yet to comment on Iran’s claims of surveillance over American aircraft and bases.
