The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has stepped up its enforcement and recovery measures to meet the revised tax collection target of Rs12,334 billion for the ongoing fiscal year 2024-25.
As part of its accelerated efforts, all FBR offices across the country will remain open till 8pm on Saturday, May 31, to facilitate taxpayers and expedite collections. The move is aimed at covering the shortfall of Rs833 billion recorded between July and April. During the first 10 months of the fiscal year, the FBR managed to collect Rs9,309 billion in taxes.
The original tax collection target for the fiscal year was set at Rs12,970 billion. However, due to the persistent shortfall, it was revised down to Rs12,334 billion. In a bid to achieve this adjusted goal, the FBR has issued instructions to all Large Taxpayer Units (LTUs) and regional tax offices.
According to officials, notices are being served to tax defaulters, and the enforcement drive will be further intensified in the final month leading up to June 30.
