The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government on Thursday announced the schedule for summer vacations in all public and private schools across the province, as temperatures continue to soar in several parts of the country.
According to a notification issued by the Elementary and Secondary Education Department, summer vacations in most districts of KP will begin on June 15 and continue till August 31. However, a shorter summer break has been notified for the upper districts, where schools will remain closed from July 1 to July 31, taking into account the relatively milder weather in those areas.
The notification further stated that the schedule applies to all government and private sector institutions operating under the provincial education authority.
Meanwhile, the Punjab government had earlier notified summer vacations for schools in the province, with different dates for morning and afternoon shifts. According to the School Education Department Punjab, afternoon shift schools are observing summer break from May 25, while other schools commenced vacations from May 28.
All public and private schools in Punjab are scheduled to reopen on August 15, subject to weather conditions.
The decision to close schools for an extended period comes in response to the intense heatwave sweeping across many parts of the country, prompting calls from parents and educationists for timely measures to protect children from heat-related illnesses.
