Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Syed Asim Munir visited Bannu on Thursday following a foiled terrorist attack on Bannu Cantonment by terrorists on March 4.
During his visit, the army chief was briefed on ongoing security operations and the overall situation in the region. He also visited the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) Bannu, where he met injured soldiers and praised their resilience and unwavering dedication. General Munir commended the high morale of the troops and reiterated that the Pakistan Army remains steadfast in its mission to eliminate terrorism and safeguard the state's stability.
Expressing his condolences, the COAS paid tribute to the civilians who lost their lives in the heinous and cowardly attack on March 4. He assured that while the attackers were neutralized on the spot, their planners, and facilitators would also be brought to justice soon, regardless of their location. He condemned the targeting of civilians, including women, children, and the elderly, emphasizing that such actions exposed the true nature of terrorists as enemies of Islam.
Highlighting the importance of the local community in countering terrorism, the COAS noted that national unity is imperative in the fight against terrorism and that the armed forces would spare no effort in ensuring the safety and security of Pakistan’s people.
While addressing the troops, General Munir lauded their swift and decisive response in neutralizing the attackers and thwarting their nefarious designs. He reiterated that the fight against the terrorists and their facilitators, who operate at the behest of hostile elements, would continue until its logical conclusion.
The army chief also pointed out that terrorist groups, including Fitna Al-Khawarij, were using Afghan soil to launch attacks against Pakistan. He highlighted that the presence of foreign weapons and equipment in recent attacks was clear evidence that Afghanistan remained a safe haven for such elements. He reaffirmed that Pakistan would not allow any entity to disrupt its peace and stability.
Upon his arrival, COAS General Asim Munir was received by the Peshawar Corps commander.
