The federal cabinet has approved the National Housing Policy 2026, marking the adoption of a new national housing framework nearly 25 years after the previous policy.
According to the Ministry of Housing and Construction, the policy aims to establish a comprehensive framework for housing and urban planning across the country.
The main vision of the policy is to promote adequate, affordable and sustainable housing for all.
Focus on affordable housing
The policy places particular emphasis on improving access to housing, basic amenities and supporting infrastructure.
Special attention has also been given to affordable and low-cost housing for low-income groups and people living in rural areas.
The government says the policy is intended to address key challenges faced by citizens in accessing suitable and affordable housing.
Land, financing and construction included
The new policy covers several important areas linked to the housing sector, including land availability, housing finance, construction services, technology and construction materials.
The framework also seeks to improve supporting infrastructure alongside housing development to help create more sustainable urban and residential communities.
The Ministry of Housing and Construction said the policy is aimed at providing a coordinated national approach to housing and urban development.
