The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) has removed the licence requirement for solar systems of up to 25 kilowatts under amendments to the Solar Regulations 2026.
According to a notification issued by the Nepra, the solar consumers with systems up to 25 kilowatts will no longer need prior approval from the authority. The decision has aimed to promote solar energy and make the approval process easier for consumers.
Under the amended rules, the Nepra to approve solar systems up to 25 kilowatts has been given to the relevant electricity distribution companies (Discos), which will directly process applications.
The Nepra said the new amendments would more simplify procedures for solar consumers and encourage the use of renewable energy in the country.
