Russia carried out a large-scale overnight attack on Ukraine using hundreds of drones and ballistic missiles, targeting multiple regions and port infrastructure in the south, Ukrainian officials said.
According to Ukraine’s air force, Russia launched 324 drones between Tuesday evening and the early hours of Wednesday, along with three ballistic missiles. Air defence systems reportedly intercepted or neutralised 309 drones, although the missiles and 13 drones struck nine separate locations.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said several regions, including Dnipro, Cherkasy, Kharkiv, Kryvyi Rih, Chernihiv, Donetsk, and Zaporizhzhia, came under heavy attack. He stressed that strengthening Ukraine’s air defence remains a top priority and called for continuous supply of air defence missiles.
Regional authorities reported casualties and widespread damage. In Zaporizhzhia, a 74-year-old woman was killed in a kiosk during a combined drone and missile strike early Wednesday. The attack also damaged residential buildings, vehicles, commercial premises, and an educational facility.
In Dnipro, three people were injured after drones struck a nine-storey apartment building and an administrative structure, causing significant structural damage. The city had already suffered a deadly missile strike a day earlier that killed five people and injured around 30 others.
In Cherkasy, four people required medical treatment following an overnight drone attack that damaged dozens of homes and vehicles. Authorities also reported earlier strikes in the region that killed an eight-year-old child and injured several others.
Meanwhile, Ukraine’s Sea Ports Authority confirmed that drone attacks targeted port infrastructure along the Danube in the Odesa region, damaging production facilities, storage units, and administrative buildings. Despite the attacks, port operations continue, officials said.
Ukrainian authorities continue to assess damage as emergency services respond across affected regions.
