The National Peace Message Committee (NPMC) has announced that gatherings will be held tomorrow under the titles of Youm-e-Tazeem Haramain Sharifain wa Tahaffuz al-Aqsa, Youm-e-Tazeem-e-Harmain Al-Sharifain, Al-Aqsa', and appealed to the public to keep all meetings and processions peaceful.
Pakistan Ulema Council Chairman Maulana Tahir Ashrafi, accompanied by other religious scholars, addressed a press conference in Islamabad and stressed the need to promote unity and harmony among the Islamic world.
A statement highlighted the importance of unity among different schools of thought and Muslim countries, while appreciating coordination between Pakistan and Iran.
Strong condemnation was expressed over Israeli aggression in Palestine, and concern was voiced over the present situation of Masjid al-Aqsa. The scholars said the protection of Masjid al-Aqsa and other sacred sites was a religious responsibility of the entire Muslim Ummah.
Scholars from all schools of thought rejected sectarianism and reaffirmed their resolve to maintain unity and solidarity. Concern was also expressed over attempts on social media to spread sectarian discord, and the Interior Ministry was urged to take strict action in this regard.
The statement said attempts by Israel to create divisions within the Muslim Ummah were condemnable, adding that scholars and the state must play a responsible role in the present circumstances. The meeting described Pakistan as a nuclear Muslim state and a source of pride for the Ummah, and stressed solidarity between Pakistan and Iran.
Gatherings across the country were also announced in solidarity with Palestine under the titles “Youm-e-Tazeem-e-Harmain Al-Sharifain, Al-Aqsa”.
