Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif acknowledged the rise in revenue of the National Highway Authority, improved safety measures on highways and better service areas, and commended Federal Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan and his team.
The prime minister said the open and transparent auction of NHA toll plazas was a commendable step. A meeting to review the performance of the National Highway Authority was held under the chairmanship of Shehbaz Sharif, where a detailed briefing on the authority’s performance was presented.
The briefing stated that NHA revenue rose from Rs66.8 billion to Rs109 billion in 2025.
It was also stated that the number of M-Tags on motorways rose from 20 per cent to 81 per cent in 2025 compared with 2024. Compliance with axle-load limits on highways and motorways also reached 90 and 95 per cent respectively.
An air ambulance service will also be introduced on motorways this year.
Upgradation of the Lyari Expressway, Thokar Niaz Baig and the Islamabad–Murree Expressway was carried out from the authority’s own budget.
The prime minister praised the efforts of Communications Minister Abdul Aleem Khan and his team and directed that ongoing projects be completed on time.
He said the open and transparent auction of NHA toll plazas was a positive measure and instructed that the highest standards of work be ensured during motorway repairs.
The meeting was attended by Federal Minister Ahsan Iqbal, Federal Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan, Ahad Cheema and other senior officials.
