South Africa defeated India by four wickets with four balls to spare in Raipur to level the three-match series at one-all on Wednesday.
According to details, the visitors chased a target of 359 and reached 362 for six in 49.2 overs, led by Aiden Markram’s authoritative 110 and Dewald Brevis’s forceful 54.
Markram anchored the pursuit with a composed century from 98 balls, supported first by Temba Bavuma’s 46 and later by Matthew Breetzke’s 68. Brevis accelerated the chase with five sixes in his 34-ball contribution before Prasidh Krishna removed him. Corbin Bosch added an unbeaten 29 in the closing stages, while Keshav Maharaj held firm with 10 not out to close out the match.
India earlier posted 358 for five after centuries from Virat Kohli and Ruturaj Gaikwad placed the home side in a commanding position. Kohli struck 102 from 93 balls and Gaikwad reached 105 from 83. KL Rahul ensured a strong finish with an unbeaten 66, while Ravindra Jadeja provided 24 not out. India advanced steadily during the middle overs as Kohli and Gaikwad added 195 for the third wicket.
South Africa chose to field after winning the toss. Marco Jansen claimed two wickets, while Lungi Ngidi and Nandre Burger took one each. Bosch and Aiden Markram bowled without reward. India’s innings contained 20 wides as South Africa struggled for control in phases.
During the chase, Arshdeep Singh led India’s attack with two wickets, and Prasidh Krishna also took two, but both conceded heavily. The bowlers failed to maintain pressure during the decisive passages of play, allowing South Africa to stay ahead of the required rate.
The series stands level at one-all, with the final match set to decide the outcome of the tour.
