Former Indian cricketers have criticised India’s performance after South Africa secured a 30-run victory in the first Test at Eden Gardens, Kolkata.
According to details, the pitch has drawn sharp scrutiny, with several ex-players questioning its preparation and suitability for Test cricket. The match ended within two and a half days.
Former captain Sourav Ganguly said the curators were not at fault, adding that the pitch had been prepared according to the wishes of the Indian team. He said that ‘if a pitch receives no water for four days, this is what happens’.
Harbhajan Singh condemned the state of the surface, calling it ‘a joke with Test cricket’ and saying ‘rest in peace Test cricket’.
South Africa’s win came through a strong bowling display from Simon Harmer and resilient batting from Temba Bavuma.
