Pakistan and the University of Cambridge have signed two historic memoranda of understanding, under the "Uraan Pakistan" initiative, in a ceremony attended by Federal Minister for Planning and Development, Ahsan Iqbal.
The first agreement establishes collaboration between Cambridge University and Quaid-i-Azam University in the field of materials science and emerging technologies. The government has approved funding of Rs3.5 billion for the Institute of Advanced Materials Sciences, with an additional allocation of $0.7 million for faculty and student exchanges and joint research projects.
Speaking at the event, Ahsan Iqbal said that materials science is the "engine" of the new economy and pledged to translate research into products. He emphasised that this initiative aligns with the government’s "Five-Year Framework" and the "Uraan Pakistan" initiative.
The second agreement was signed between Cambridge Enterprise Limited and PIID, aiming to link universities with global investors and technology partners, according to an official statement.
