Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazl (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman said on Friday that the religious seminaries were being compelled to come to under the Ministry of Education.
Speaking to media, Rehman said that Maulana Fazlur Rehman said that if the rights of the provinces were usurped, they would offer strong resistance. He said that they stood for granting greater authority to the provinces. He added that even the registration of seminaries was not being carried out.
Rehman said that no progress was visible regarding the elimination of interest. He said that if points withdrawn in the 26th amendment were reintroduced in the 27th Amendment, it would not be acceptable.
He said that if the government approved any amendment from the 26th amendment, they would regard it as an insult to Parliament. Rehman recalled that in the 26th Amendment, the government had withdrawn 26 clauses.
He said that discussion could only take place once a draft was presented, saying that no draft had yet been brought forward by the government.
He said that debate on the 27th amendment was under way, adding that their parliamentary party had held a meeting today.
"If the need arises, we shall meet the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), but there is no agenda", said Rehman.
"We shall be able to hold talks only when a draft is presented. No draft has so far been put forward by the government," he maintained.
Speaking about the Pakistan-Afghanistan talks, Rehman said: "I am hopeful that the talks with Afghanistan will prove successful, said Maulana Fazlur Rehman."
