A video showing traffic police officers assaulting a motorcyclist in Islamabad has led to the suspension of the officers concerned, pending the outcome of an inquiry.
According to details surfaced on Saturday, the order was issued by Chief Traffic Officer Captain (retd) Hamza Humayun after the footage circulated widely. The incident took place when a motorcyclist crossed a barrier set up to stop a protest.
The video showed the officers assaulting the rider and throwing his helmet to the ground. According to the police spokesperson, the motorcyclist posed as an official from a government agency and forced his way through the barricade onto the expressway.
An altercation followed after the biker behaved inappropriately towards the officers. The traffic officials involved have been suspended until the investigation is complete. The Chief Traffic Officer said misuse of authority in uniform would not be tolerated under any circumstances.
