In a major step toward modernising public transport, the Punjab government has decided to abolish the traditional token system in Metrobus and Orange Line services, replacing them with a smart cashless travel system via the newly introduced T-Card.
The move aims to eliminate long queues, reduce wait times, and streamline travel through a single payment card across all mass transit systems in the province.
One card for all mass transit services
According to the Punjab Mass Transit Authority (PMA), the T-Cash Card will serve as a unified payment solution for Metrobus and Orange Line trains. This innovation is part of the government’s broader e-Transit initiative to digitize public services.
Passengers will be able to use one T-Card to access both services, making travel faster, easier, and more efficient.
Easy application via app, website, or helpline
Obtaining a T-Card is designed to be simple and accessible. Commuters can apply through:
-
The e-Transit Punjab website
-
The e-Transit mobile app
-
By calling the 1762 helpline, where agents can assist with the process
This flexibility is expected to make adoption seamless for daily commuters in Lahore and other cities served by mass transit.
Phase-out of old token and RFID systems
Officials from the Transport Department confirmed that the current token system will be discontinued once the T-Card rollout is complete and public awareness campaigns are conducted.
The government is urging passengers to shift to the new system promptly to ensure uninterrupted access to services.
