Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has once again expressed a desire to move forward in political cooperation with former Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) stalwart Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, stating that minor differences should be set aside for the greater good of the country.
The meeting took place on Sunday in Rawalpindi, where the prime minister visited the former interior minister at his residence. The long-time associates greeted each other warmly, with the premier presenting a bouquet to Nisar.
According to sources, the meeting included candid exchanges, during which both personal and political matters were discussed in detail, alongside issues of national importance.
In a light-hearted reproach, the Prime Minister remarked, “It seems you have forgotten us,” to which Nisar attributed his absence from contact to ill health.
PM Shehbaz has reiterated his wish for political unity, emphasising the need to overlook smaller matters for the country’s advancement. However, Nisar refrained from making any immediate commitment, adding that he would consult with his colleagues before reaching a decision.
The premier prayed for Nisar’s swift recovery and stressed the importance of maintaining communication.
This was the second meeting between the two figures in the past eight years. The previous encounter occurred last year, when Mr Sharif visited Mr Nisar to offer condolences following the death of his sister.
Chaudhry Taimoor, son of Chaudhry Nisar, was also present during the meeting.
