Bangladesh’s all-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz has been named the ICC Men’s Player of the Month for April 2025, following his stellar performance in the two-match Test series against Zimbabwe.
The 27-year-old cricketer beat competition from Zimbabwe’s Blessing Muzarabani and New Zealand’s Ben Sears to claim the honour, which is awarded through a global vote that includes input from fans and a specialist panel comprising ICC Hall of Famers, former international players, and media representatives.
This marks the first time Mehidy has received the monthly accolade and makes him only the third Bangladeshi to do so, following in the footsteps of Mushfiqur Rahim and Shakib Al Hasan. The last Bangladeshi to win the honour was Shakib, in March 2023.
“It’s an incredible honour to win the ICC Men’s Player of the Month,” Mehidy said in a statement. “Moments like these remind me of my journey — being named Player of the Tournament in the 2016 ICC Under-19 World Cup was a massive encouragement early in my career, and this award feels just as special.”
He added: “Recognition like this from the ICC motivates me to keep pushing harder and performing consistently for my country. I want to thank my teammates, coaches, and the fans — this award belongs to all of them too.”
Miraz was in sublime form during the Zimbabwe series, contributing significantly with both bat and ball. He ended the series with 116 runs at an average of 38.66 and took 15 wickets at a remarkable average of 11.86.
In the first Test at Sylhet, despite Bangladesh losing by three wickets, Mehidy stood out with match figures of 10 wickets — 5 for 52 in the first innings and 5 for 50 in the second — keeping the hosts in the contest throughout.
The second Test in Chattogram saw the all-rounder put on a match-winning display. After Zimbabwe were bowled out cheaply, Mehidy scored a composed 104 off 162 deliveries, marking his second century in Test cricket. He then dismantled the visitors in the second innings with figures of 5 for 32, helping Bangladesh secure a commanding win by an innings and 106 runs and level the series 1-1.
His efforts not only earned him the Player of the Series award but also propelled him to the number two position in the ICC Men’s Test Player Rankings for all-rounders — his highest career ranking to date.
In the women’s category, Scotland’s captain Kathryn Bryce was named the ICC Women’s Player of the Month for April. While her team failed to qualify for the upcoming ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup in India, Bryce’s individual brilliance was widely recognised.
She amassed 293 runs in five matches during the Qualifier in Pakistan at an average of 73.25, including a match-winning 131 not out against Ireland, 91 versus Pakistan, and 60 against Thailand. The 27-year-old also took six wickets and was named Player of the Series.
“It’s a real honour to win this award,” said Bryce. “Knowing that it’s being voted for by the global cricket community makes it that extra bit special. Even just to be nominated alongside players like Fatima Sana and Hayley Matthews was amazing.”
