Fees at medical and dental colleges across the country have been increased, with new charges fixed between Rs1.8 million and Rs2.1 million, according to an official notification.
The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) has fixed a new upper limit for fees, while charges at 19 major medical colleges have been raised.
A private medical college in Islamabad now carries the highest fee, set at Rs2,147,000.
The increase will apply equally to students of all years from the academic session 2024-25.
Cases seeking fee increases from 20 private medical colleges were rejected owing to the absence of an audit report.
Institutions whose cases were rejected will retain the previous session’s fee of Rs1.8 million, while the current year’s fee will stand at Rs1.89 million.
The PMDC said the relevant private medical colleges will not be allowed to charge more than the approved amount.
Any institution found in violation will face a fine of Rs2 million and suspension of registration.
The PMDC also directed that any excess fee collected must be returned to students within one month.
