Pakistan Cricket Board Chairman and Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi attended the PCB Interschools Cricket Final at Naya Nazimabad in Karachi, where he announced major plans for cricket infrastructure and youth development.
Mohsin Naqvi traveled from Islamabad to Karachi on a special aircraft and landed at PAF Faisal Base, according to sources. Karachi Airport and PAF Faisal Base authorities were informed in advance about the arrival.
The PCB chairman reached Naya Nazimabad Gymkhana Cricket Stadium to attend the PCB Interschools Final. He distributed prizes among the players of the winning interschools champion team and interacted with young cricketers.
Addressing the ceremony, Naqvi said the purpose of holding interschools cricket tournaments is to identify and nurture new talent from across the country. He added that a special event will also be organized involving the teams that won the interschools competitions.
National Stadium upgrade after PSL
The PCB chief announced that upgrade of the National Stadium Karachi will begin immediately after the Pakistan Super League concludes. He said the National Stadium will be reconstructed and made more beautiful than Lahore’s grounds.
He acknowledged long-standing issues related to cricket grounds in Karachi and said he is fully aware of the situation. He assured that very soon, good news will be announced regarding the improvement of grounds across the country, including Karachi.
Naqvi said once Karachi’s grounds are upgraded into proper stadiums, the people of the city will return to watching cricket at venues in large numbers. He reiterated that a better cricket ground than Lahore will be built in Karachi.
Efforts to host Women’s World Cup
The PCB chairman revealed that efforts are underway to ensure Pakistan hosts the Women’s World Cup. He clarified that no talks have taken place with the team captain regarding the Women’s World Cup so far.
He stressed that the Pakistan Cricket Board remains firm on its position regarding India. He emphasized that any talks with India will take place strictly on the basis of equality, adding that PCB will not compromise on its stance.
