The federal government announced on Monday stricter rules for renting private buildings for government offices, making written permission from the Ministry of Finance mandatory before any lease can be finalized.
Departments, ministries, and divisions will no longer be able to rent properties independently.
According to the Ministry of Finance, any department that rents a private building without prior written approval will not be granted retroactive permission. This marks a permanent end to the previous system, where approvals could sometimes be sought after the fact.
The new procedure is aimed at ensuring transparency and proper oversight in government office rentals.
Rent regulated by housing and works
In addition to written permission, the rent of private buildings will now be determined by the Ministry of Housing and Works. This includes approval for buildings rented at prices higher than previous rates.
Departments must also provide supporting documents, including the owner’s NOC, building map, previous rental agreements, and recommendations from the concerned officer, before securing approval.
