Iraq has announced encouraging news for the global oil market, saying its oil fields are ready to resume extraction operations and exports will gradually return to previous levels as conditions in the Strait of Hormuz stabilize.
The announcement signals a cautious return to normal production activity, though officials say full restoration will take time.
Iraq’s Minister of Oil, Basim Mohammed Khudair Al-Abadi, confirmed that the country’s oil fields are prepared to resume extraction operations.
Speaking to the Iraqi News Agency, Al-Abadi said all oil fields are ready to restart production, marking an important step toward restoring normal activity in one of the region’s key oil-producing countries.
“The oil fields are ready to resume extraction operations,” the minister said.
Production to return in phases
Al-Abadi said the return to normal production conditions will take place gradually.
According to the Iraqi oil minister, it will take some time before output reaches previous production levels. He explained that restoration of normal production activities will be phased to ensure operations return smoothly and safely.
Iraq has linked the increase in oil exports to the security and smooth flow of shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.
Al-Abadi said Iraq’s Oil Marketing Company, SOMO, has already contacted all customers to nominate both chartered and owned tankers for loading contracted quantities of Iraqi crude oil.
These shipments will be loaded through southern Iraqi ports. The minister said the resumption of exports will be gradual and will depend on the smooth movement of shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.
Hormuz stability key to global oil supply
The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world’s most important energy routes, making its stability critical for global oil supply.
Iraq’s announcement is being viewed as positive news for oil markets after recent disruptions raised concerns over crude availability and shipping security.
With Baghdad preparing to restore exports in stages, market attention is now focused on whether maritime traffic through Hormuz continues to normalize.
Oil market receives positive signal
The Iraqi Oil Ministry’s announcement of normal operations has provided reassurance to energy markets. Officials emphasized that while all oil fields are ready, the full recovery of production and exports will be carried out step by step.
The phased approach reflects Iraq’s effort to balance production recovery with regional security conditions and shipping safety.
