Russia’s Ambassador to Pakistan, Albert Khorev held a press conference addressing the complex regional situation due to the ongoing war in Iran and Russia’s long-standing military and technical cooperation with the country.
Ambassador Khorev stated that Russia is prepared to supply oil to Pakistan. “If Pakistan approaches us, we can provide oil at a discounted rate,” he said, adding that the country could benefit from the current circumstances.
He also clarified that he is not aware of any formal request from Pakistan to purchase Russian oil. “The energy sector remains a key pillar of bilateral cooperation between Pakistan and Russia,” Khorev emphasized.
Pakistan, along with many other countries, is facing increasing fuel prices due to disruptions in supply chains caused by the ongoing conflicts in the Middle East.
Shipping through the Strait of Hormuz - a vital corridor for global oil shipments - has come to a standstill after Iran closed the passage in retaliation to joint strikes by the United States and Israel.
In response to the disruption, Pakistan has hiked petrol and diesel prices by a sharp 20%. Federal ministers have assured that the increase is temporary and will be rolled back once the conflict eases.
