Former Sri Lankan captain and veteran all-rounder Angelo Mathews has announced his retirement from Test cricket.
In an emotional message shared on Instagram, the 37-year-old cricketer wrote: “My dear friends and family, with a grateful heart and unforgettable memories,
It is time for me to say goodbye to the most cherished format of the game — international Test cricket."
"Representing Sri Lanka for the past 17 years has been my greatest honour and pride. Nothing compares to the feeling of patriotism when wearing the national jersey. I have given everything to cricket, and the game has given everything back to me, shaping me into who I am today," he said.
He added, "I am deeply grateful to the game, and to all Sri Lankan fans who have stood by me through the highs and lows."

"The upcoming Test match against Bangladesh in June will be my final red-ball appearance for Sri Lanka. Although I retire from Tests, I remain available for white-ball cricket, should my country need me. I believe this Test team has tremendous talent and potential. Now is the right time to make way for a younger player," he said.
"I thank God, my parents, wife, children, family, and friends who have supported me throughout. My sincere thanks to Sri Lanka Cricket, St. Joseph’s College Colombo, and all my coaches," Mathews said.
He maintained: "I also thank my management team for their dedication over the years. A chapter ends, but my love for the game will remain forever."
