Former Pakistan captain Shoaib Malik has called for attractive red-ball contracts for specialist players in order to strengthen Pakistan’s Test cricket structure.
In a statement shared on X, Malik said specialist cricketers should receive lucrative contracts to ensure their commitment to the longer format of the game.
He said such incentives would encourage players to remain attached to red-ball cricket and ensure they take part in at least five first-class matches every season.
Malik added that players would then avoid the mistake of changing their natural style of play or running after franchise cricket opportunities.
He said incomplete skills do not survive at the international level and stressed the need for fully committed players who are prepared for every challenge.
Malik says specialist contracts will help players remain committed to first-class cricket and improve standards at international level.
