The Ebola virus outbreak, which began in African countries, has raised alarm across the world, while the World Health Organisation has declared the epidemic a matter of international public health concern.
The Pakistan’s Ministry of Health has initiated precautionary measures in view of the possible threat posed by the Ebola virus. The ministry has directed the National Institute of Health to take necessary steps and ensure the availability of laboratory testing kits.
The Ministry of Health has also instructed Border Health Services to remain on alert regarding the Ebola virus and directed authorities to carry out special monitoring of passengers arriving from Uganda and Congo at airports.
According to officials, the symptoms of Ebola haemorrhagic fever closely resemble those of the dengue virus, prompting instructions for medical staff to remain vigilant.
The Federal Ministry of National Health Services officials have stated that the situation in Pakistan remains fully under control and there is no cause for concern.
Meanwhile, nearly 300 suspected Ebola cases have so far been reported in African countries, while 80 deaths have also been recorded. A team from the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has also arrived in the two affected African nations.
