Pakistan tennis player Muhammad Shoaib Khan has secured the ITF Futures title, ending a 20-year wait with a strong display of form.
In the final played in Islamabad, Shoaib Khan defeated Russia’s Nikita Ianin in a tense contest. He won the match 6-7, 6-4, 2-6, adding a new chapter to Pakistan’s tennis history.
The result is notable as it marks the first time in two decades that a Pakistani player has reached and won an ITF Futures final. Pakistan Tennis Federation President Aisam-ul-Haq and Secretary Colonel Zia Tufail congratulated Shoaib Khan on his performance.
Speaking at the closing ceremony, PTF President Aisam-ul-Haq said it was a significant day for Pakistan tennis and supporters of sport in the country, adding that considerable effort had gone into staging the event and praising Shoaib Khan for making history.
