Peshawar Zalmi captain Babar Azam has said he will not respond to criticism, adding that his focus remains on improving his performances.
Addressing a press conference in Lahore ahead of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 11 final between Peshawar Zalmi and Hyderabad Kingsmen, Azam said his recent performances had fallen short of both public and personal expectations. He said his effort remained centred on delivering better results on the field.
He said that even strong performances do not shield a player from criticism, adding that he would not engage in replying to such remarks. Like every captain, he said, his ambition is to lift the trophy.
Babar said Pakistan possesses abundant cricketing talent, but proper identification is required. He said it is essential to determine which player is suited to which format, warning that a Twenty20 player should not be placed in Test cricket without due consideration. He added that talent must be nurtured and opportunities provided.
He said Hyderabad faced difficulties at the start of the tournament but later played good cricket. He added that Peshawar Zalmi performed well throughout, with each player contributing. He described Mendis as an experienced player whose presence proves beneficial.
The captain said his journey with Peshawar Zalmi has been positive, with the team performing well in all three departments. He added that every match carries pressure, while a PSL final brings its own distinct intensity.
