The investigation into government employees with dual citizenship has been accelerated, with the Establishment Division mobilized on the instructions of the Senate Standing Committee on Cabinet Secretariat.
The division has decided to collect data on senior officers with dual nationality and present the records received from ministries before the Senate.
On the instructions of the Senate Standing Committee on Cabinet Secretariat, the division has sent letters and a proforma to all ministries. The ministries have been directed to provide complete records of officers with foreign nationality.
According to the instructions, ministries will have to provide details of officers of grade 17 and above. The information sought includes the officer’s name, department, foreign citizenship and the date when the citizenship was acquired.
The move is aimed at compiling a formal record of senior government officials who hold dual nationality.
Key ministries asked to provide records
Records have been sought from key secretaries, including those in the ministries of Foreign Affairs, Interior, Finance and Commerce. The Ministry of Law and the Ministry of Information have also been directed to provide records of officers with dual citizenship.
The Establishment Division has also sent a letter to the Secretary of the Presidency as part of the data collection process.
After receiving the required information from ministries, the Establishment Division will compile the records. The collected data will then be presented to the Senate.
The accelerated process reflects growing parliamentary focus on dual nationality among senior government employees and bureaucrats.
