Two new cases of polio have been confirmed in the districts of Bannu and North Waziristan in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, taking the total number of cases in the country to three so far this year.
According to the National Emergency Operations Centre, the new cases have been reported from Union Council Jani Khel in Bannu and Union Council Griom in North Waziristan.
The National EOC stated that targeted measures and an effective strategy remain in place for the eradication of polio, adding that it is essential for children to receive polio drops during every campaign for protection.
Polio is an incurable disease; however, timely vaccination provides protection against it. The National EOC further stated that a special anti-polio campaign will be carried out in selected districts across the country during the current month, under which 19 million children will receive polio drops.
