The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has imposed a one-year ban on Sri Lanka T20I captain Dasun Shanaka following his withdrawal from the Pakistan Super League (PSL).
According to details surfaced on Monday, the PCB reviewed the contractual arrangement between Dasun Shanaka and Lahore Qalandars before issuing a final decision. The review found that the player’s unilateral withdrawal from the tournament on 21 March 2026 constituted a clear breach of player registration terms and a tri-party agreement.
During the hearing, Shanaka’s expression of regret and his stated commitment to playing in Pakistan were taken into consideration by the PCB. The ban has taken immediate effect, rendering him ineligible for the 2027 edition of the Pakistan Super League.
Dasun Shanaka expressed deep regret over his decision to withdraw from the PSL.
Shanaka offered an apology to the people of Pakistan, PSL supporters, and the wider cricket community. He stated that the Pakistan Super League is a prestigious tournament and that he fully understands the disappointment caused by his actions.
Shanaka also apologised to Lahore Qalanders’ supporters for failing to meet expectations.
He clarified that at the time of withdrawal, he had no intention of participating in any other tournament.
The PCB reaffirmed its commitment to strict enforcement of player contracts and professional standards.
