Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Syed Mohsin Raza Naqvi has announced jobs for unemployed hockey players and said the PCB would also arrange treatment for injured players.
According to details surfaced on Wednesday, Pakistan hockey head coach Khawaja Junaid said Mohsin Naqvi had said unemployed players would receive jobs in the Capital Development Authority (CDA). He said the prime minister had saved the hockey team from ruin and deserved thanks.
Mohsin Naqvi said the board would support hockey players in matters of fitness and medical care. He said the PCB would continue its cooperation with hockey players as in the past.
National hockey team captain Imad Shakeel Butt said the side had shown a strong performance in the Pro League despite difficult circumstances. He said the team played very good hockey despite defeat against England in the final and would aim for strong performances in the remaining Pro League matches and the World Cup.
A PCB spokesman said the chairman praised the players’ performance and encouraged the hockey squad during the meeting.
Khawaja Junaid said continued encouragement would bring further improvement in performance. He said players had been asked to submit documents for employment and repeated that Mohsin Naqvi had said unemployed players would receive jobs in the CDA. He added that the Prime Minister had saved the hockey team from destruction and deserved appreciation.
The head coach said Mohsin Naqvi had announced full support for national hockey players. He added that the PCB would also look after the rehabilitation and fitness of the national players and said the Pakistan hockey team’s association with the PCB was welcome.
