A welfare institution in Karachi has become the latest target of armed robbers, with four suspects allegedly looting Rs6.5 million from the Edhi Home near Sohrab Goth.
The suspects, travelling on two motorcycles, entered the facility armed with weapons and fled after taking the money that had reportedly been withdrawn from a private bank to pay employees’ salaries.
The robbery took place at the Edhi Home in the Sohrab Goth area of Karachi, where four armed men allegedly targeted employees carrying a large amount of cash.
According to the complainant, the suspects were riding two motorcycles and had been following the employees after they withdrew more than Rs6.5 million from a private bank.
The robbers followed them to the welfare centre, entered the premises and fled with the cash after carrying out the armed robbery.
CCTV footage captures suspects
CCTV footage of the incident has emerged, showing four suspects dressed in pants and shirts entering the Edhi Home while carrying weapons.
The suspects managed to escape from the scene after the robbery. Police are now examining the available footage and other evidence to identify and arrest those involved.
According to the Edhi administration, the looted money had been brought from a bank shortly before the incident. The cash was reportedly withdrawn specifically to pay the salaries of employees at the welfare institution.
Investigators also suspect that current or former employees of the institution may have been involved in the robbery or may have provided information about the cash movement.
Police register robbery case
A robbery case has been registered at Samanabad police station following the incident.
Police said efforts are underway to trace and arrest the suspects, with investigators examining various pieces of evidence connected to the robbery.
Further investigation into the incident is also underway.
Sindh CM seeks report from IG
Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah took notice of the robbery and sought a detailed report from Sindh Inspector General of Police Javed Alam Odho.
The chief minister directed the police to immediately arrest the suspects involved in the robbery.
The incident has once again raised concerns over the security situation in Karachi, with armed robbers targeting even welfare institutions such as the Edhi Home.
