Climate activist and education reformist Sonam Wangchuk was shifted to a hospital on Saturday after his health deteriorated during his indefinite hunger strike at Jantar Mantar, according to Delhi Police.
Police said Wangchuk was moved to Safdarjung Hospital for "essential medical care" following advice from medical experts and in compliance with directions from the Delhi High Court.
"Due to the deteriorating health condition of Shri Sonam Wangchuk, he has been shifted to the hospital for essential medical care," Delhi Police said in a statement.

The police denied reports of any detention or use of force during the operation, saying protesters attempted to obstruct the process but the situation was handled peacefully.
A police official said doctors visited the protest site around 7am and advised that Wangchuk required immediate medical attention due to his worsening condition.
"He is weak due to prolonged fasting and dehydration. Although he is currently stable, he requires continuous observation, monitoring and treatment to restore his body parameters," Safdarjung Hospital said in a statement.
Wife raises concerns over treatment
Wangchuk's wife, Gitanjali J Angmo, confirmed his admission to the hospital but urged authorities not to administer any treatment without her consent.
In a post on X, she said: "Nothing should be administered to him orally or intravenous without taking consent from me, his family and his doctors who have been monitoring his health for the past 20 days."
She questioned the decision to hospitalise him, saying Wangchuk appeared fine a day earlier.

"Yesterday, he was doing fine. There was no need to bring him to the hospital," she said.
Wangchuk has been on an indefinite hunger strike at Jantar Mantar for nearly three weeks, demanding action on issues related to climate protection, environmental concerns and greater safeguards for the Himalayan region.
The development comes as supporters and fellow activists continue to gather at the protest site, with concerns growing over his health condition after the prolonged fast.
