The Gilgit-Baltistan Election Commission has ordered re-polling at 26 polling stations across five constituencies after complaints and requests for recounting and fresh polling by several candidates.
Chief Election Commissioner Raja Shahbaz said re-polling will be held in GBA-8 Skardu, GBA-13 Astore, GBA-15 Diamer, GBA-16 Chilas and GBA-17 Darel.
According to a notification, the Election Commission has stopped the results of five constituencies for recounting and re-polling. The constituencies include GBA-8 Skardu, GBA-13 Astore, GBA-15 Diamer, GBA-16 Chilas and GBA-17 Darel.
The Election Commission said candidates in these constituencies had requested recounts, while several candidates had also sought re-polling at different polling stations.
Re-polling schedule announced
Chief Election Commissioner Raja Shahbaz said re-polling will be conducted at 26 polling stations in the five constituencies. He said re-polling will be held at 10 polling stations in GBA-8 Skardu and one polling station in GBA-13 Astore.
The commission also ordered re-polling at one polling station in GBA-15 Diamer, three polling stations in GBA-16 Chilas and 11 polling stations in GBA-17 Darel.

In Diamer, the Election Commission ordered re-polling in GBA-16 Diamer-2 and GBA-15 Diamer-1. A notification was issued for re-polling at four polling stations in the two constituencies, including three polling stations in GBA-16 Diamer-2 and one polling station in GBA-15 Diamer-1.
The fresh polling will be held on June 15.
According to reports from Diamer, re-polling has been ordered at polling stations including Thak Loshi, Khiyaware, Thorsari and Gechi.
The Election Commission issued the re-polling order on the request of candidates, including PPP candidate Bashir Ahmed and independent candidate Syed Imam Malik.
Contest in GBA-16 Diamer-2
In GBA-16 Diamer-2, PPP’s Attaullah and independent candidate Syed Imam Malik are among the contesting candidates.
The Election Commission ordered re-polling at three polling stations in the constituency on the request of independent candidate Syed Imam Malik.
Protests in Diamer
The election results in GBA-16 Diamer-2 took a serious turn after allegations of rigging. PPP workers staged a protest outside the District Returning Officer’s house in Diamer.

The situation outside the DRO House became tense as supporters of PPP candidate Attaullah blocked the Karakoram Highway.
Security high alert in Chilas
Following the protest and road blockade, security was placed on high alert in Chilas city.
Authorities are monitoring the situation as the Election Commission moves ahead with the re-polling process in the disputed constituencies.
