Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will chair the meeting, which is expected to focus on development priorities, economic targets, and public spending plans for FY2026-27.
Sources said the meeting agenda includes a review of federal and provincial development projects as part of the government's broader economic planning process.
Recommendations related to economic growth, development expenditure, and investment priorities have already been prepared for consideration by the council.
Officials expect the NEC to take key decisions regarding annual economic targets and development priorities for the next fiscal year.
The meeting is also seen as an important milestone in the approval process for the federal budget, which is scheduled to be presented later this month.
Schedule to be finalised after consultation
According to sources, the formal schedule for convening the NEC meeting will be issued after consultation with PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.
The consultation reflects the government's ongoing coordination with coalition partners ahead of major economic decisions.
Federal budget set for June 10
The federal government has already decided to present the FY2026-27 budget on June 10.
Sources said the budget session of the National Assembly is proposed to begin at 5pm, while summaries for both National Assembly and Senate sessions have been prepared.
Before the budget is tabled in Parliament, a special federal cabinet meeting will be held at Parliament House.
During the meeting, cabinet members will receive a detailed briefing on the budget proposals. Following cabinet approval, the budget documents will be formally presented in the National Assembly.
