The federal government has finalized June 10 as the date for presenting the upcoming national budget, following detailed consultations between coalition partners.
The decision was made during meetings between Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leadership, where economic priorities and fiscal targets were discussed in detail.
Officials said the agreement reflects progress in ongoing negotiations over budget strategy and development planning.
The consultations were attended by senior PPP leaders, including Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, Naveed Qamar, Sherry Rehman, and Saleem Mandviwala.
Senior officials from the Ministry of Finance and the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) were also present during the discussions.
The meeting focused on shaping the framework of the new fiscal year budget, including revenue targets, development allocations, and IMF-related obligations.
PPP concerns and economic priorities
During the discussions, the PPP reportedly raised concerns over certain budget targets and development spending priorities, particularly under the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP).
Both sides agreed that further rounds of consultation would continue to address outstanding differences before final approval of the budget.
Sources said discussions also touched on the challenges posed by International Monetary Fund (IMF) conditions, which continue to shape Pakistan’s fiscal planning.
Officials acknowledged the pressure of meeting economic targets while balancing political and development priorities.
Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar assured PPP leaders that differences would be resolved through continued dialogue.
He also indicated that detailed budget figures would be shared with coalition partners to ensure transparency and coordination ahead of the presentation.
