Gilgit-Baltistan (G-B) Chief Election Commissioner Raja Shahbaz Khan said on Wednesday that polling for local government elections in the region will take place on August 2.
He said returning officers have been appointed for the local government elections. The CEC said the local government elections will be held after a gap of 18 years. He said the elections would help improve the local government system in Gilgit-Baltistan.
The local government elections will be conducted under the Gilgit-Baltistan Election Act 2014.
Separately, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Nawaz Sharif addressed a public rally in Gilgit, where he highlighted development projects, expansion of trade and long-neglected infrastructure in Gilgit-Baltistan.
He said he sought public support on the basis of performance rather than criticism of political opponents.
Nawaz Sharif said he did not believe in securing votes through criticism of any party or government and that his political approach was based on performance and public service.
