The federal government has proposed a development budget of Rs16 billion for the Ministry of Interior in the fiscal year 2026-27, according to budget details obtained by Samaa TV.
The proposed allocation represents an increase of Rs4.5 billion compared to the previous year and will be used exclusively for ongoing projects, with no new schemes included in the ministry’s development portfolio.
According to budget documents, the Ministry of Interior plans to spend Rs16 billion on 22 ongoing development projects during FY2026-27.
Despite the increase in funding, no new development projects have been included in the ministry’s budget this year.
The focus will remain on completing and advancing projects that are already under implementation.

Among the major allocations, Rs1.5 billion has been proposed for the construction of additional family suites for members of parliament. The broader project carries a total cost of Rs7.4 billion and also includes the construction of 567 residential quarters.
The initiative aims to expand accommodation facilities for lawmakers and related staff.
The budget documents show that Rs2 billion has been allocated for the National Police Hospital project. Meanwhile, Rs1.6 billion is proposed for the development of a model jail as part of efforts to improve correctional infrastructure.
Both projects remain among the ministry’s key ongoing initiatives.
Safe City project gets major allocation
The Safe City programme is set to receive Rs2.7 billion under the proposed development budget. The project is designed to enhance public safety, surveillance systems and law enforcement capabilities through the use of modern technology.
Officials consider it one of the ministry’s most significant security-related development projects.
Passport, border management systems
The government has proposed Rs370 million for the passport biometric project to strengthen identity verification and document security.
In addition, Rs330 million has been allocated for border management initiatives aimed at improving monitoring and operational efficiency at border crossings.

These projects form part of broader efforts to modernize public service delivery and security systems.
NADRA digital economy project
One of the largest allocations in the proposed budget is for the NADRA digital economy project. Budget documents show that Rs2.75 billion has been earmarked for the initiative, which is expected to support Pakistan’s digital transformation and strengthen data-driven public services.
The project is viewed as a key component of the country’s evolving digital governance framework. The government has also proposed Rs200 million for revenue centers in Tarnol and Sihala.
Additionally, Rs370 million has been allocated for 13 regional passport offices across Sindh to improve access to passport-related services and streamline operations. These projects are expected to enhance citizen services and administrative efficiency.
