Former Australian cricketer Ian Healy has strongly criticised Australia’s batting approach, saying one-day cricket has become difficult for the team’s players due to impatience at the crease.
Healy said Australian batters must show greater discipline, especially while facing Pakistan’s spinners. He said Australian players are finding ODI cricket difficult and are struggling to build longer innings.
According to the former cricketer, no Australian batter appears willing to face more deliveries and spend extended time at the crease. She said the batters are showing impatience, which is hurting Australia’s performance in the one-day format.
Test batting depends on key players
Healy also pointed out that Australia’s Test cricket currently revolves heavily around Travis Head and Steve Smith.
She suggested that the team’s batting strength is too dependent on a few major players, while others need to improve their temperament and shot selection.
Advice for playing Pakistani spinners
Speaking about Pakistan’s bowling attack, Healy said Australian batters need to play forward against Pakistani spinners. She added that batters should not fear missing the ball while facing spin and must show confidence in their footwork.
Her remarks underline the need for Australia to adjust its batting strategy and show more patience against Pakistan’s spin attack.
